Curiosity

The tradition of the red wines of Cupramontana involved the assembly of different grapes and short macerations. Thus the Nocenzio which comes from an assembly of Sangiovese and Montepulciano from different plots, all in Cupramontana. The most important of these is a small plot of 1973 at the bottom of the Valle district, suspended in a wild place. Here white, calcareous and chalky marls emerge. It is vinified without sulfur in wooden vats with a good proportion of whole grapes not destemmed. The alcoholic fermentation then ends in steel.

Come to think of it, my wines are only a means. The means by which I try to express myself, to represent myself in this world, to make sense of my rapid passage on earth. I’m not interested in just making a bottle of wine to sell on a market. On the other hand, with that bottle of wine, I’d like to tell the story of the Marche peasants, to help convey biodiversity, ecological and cultural, to try to indicate different possibilities. In this sense, wine is an exceptional tool. It can be a true paradigm of a cultural “local” that becomes “global” economic. Of an “original” artifact, in the sense that it cannot ignore a specific and constituent origin. But which is traded on a global market, in the least worst sense of the term: not the large market of unproductive finance. No. Markets as exchange, contamination, dialogue of identities and cultures. This I wish it was my wine. Something that speaks of Italy, of Marche, of Cupramontana, of myself.
